Congratulations on your acceptance to UMass Lowell! We are excited to have you join our River Hawk community.
Your next steps as an admitted transfer student are all found in your :
- The first step is to declare your intent to enroll.
- Sign up for a Transfer Registration session to enroll in classes.
- You can to explore campus further, including Transfer Welcome Day, which is available once you attend registration. At Transfer Welcome Day you can get your student ID, discover where classrooms are and more!
- Follow your admitted student checklist to ensure you meet all the additional university requirements.

Declare Your Intent to Enroll and Deposit
Declare your intent to enroll by registering online and paying your non-refundable $300 enrollment deposit ($500 for international transfer students). You can submit your deposit online in your Admissions portal or you can mail us a check. If you have a financial hardship please reach out to our office. We encourage you to enroll and deposit as soon as possible.
When paying your non-refundable enrollment deposit, UMass Lowell accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express in U.S. dollars. We do not charge any credit card processing fees for the enrollment deposit. This deposit will be a credit on your tuition invoice.
Transfer Credit
The chairperson of the department to which you matriculate will determine the final evaluation of your transfer credit. This will be posted to your portal as soon as it is available.
Transfer Registration
is required for all accepted students. You will meet with a transfer coordinator who will help you choose courses and provide the most direct path to degree completion. You can sign up for transfer registration after you declare your intent to enroll at UMass Lowell.
Transfer Alliance Program
The Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) is here to help make your transition to UMass Lowell as smooth as possible, ensuring that you get everything you need to be successful from the start. When you join TAP, for your entire first semester, you’ll be paired with a transfer student who has already successfully transitioned to the UMass Lowell community. You'll also have access to success workshops, faculty and alumni networking opportunities and more.
Communications
Your personal email address you used when you applied is the primary way we will communicate with you until you start classes. Take a moment to confirm in your portal that your email address is correct and is one you will check frequently. Please notify us through the admissions portal with any changes to your mailing or email address.
Note: We do not recommend using a school email address. Some schools block external email and you may not have access to that address after graduating.
Family Communications
UShare allows students to grant parents, guardians and family members access to their Student Information System (SIS) accounts once they become an enrolled student. The student's designee(s) will have access to areas of the student's record for which they have been authorized, including the eBill and online tuition payment system. Students may add or remove guest access at anytime after they attend New Student Orientation.
Families are often a student's primary support system. Family Programs is here to help that support system be the very best it can. We help keep families informed and engaged with the UMass Lowell community. You can update your family email address any time in the River Hawk Family Portal to receive notifications about Family Program activities.
International Students
Familiarize yourself with the visa process and deadlines for your visa application. This can be a lengthy process. Our International Students and Scholars Office is available to support you with documents or materials you may need.
Financial Aid
You must submit and complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to receive financial aid. Visit The Solution Center to learn more.
Students can be selected for Financial Aid Verification, this process confirms the accuracy of the data reported on the FAFSA. If you are selected for verification, you will receive an email with instructions to log in to your Financial Aid Portal to submit required documents. It is important that this is completed as soon as possible.
Music Auditions
Review and follow all the requirements for your music audition (these are listed in the admissions portal), or you can view more information on the Music Department website.
Final Transcript
Your enrollment is contingent upon our receipt of your official final transcript. Please request that your school send us your official transcripts as soon as possible. It all comes down to helping you. We want you to receive appropriate transfer credit for the coursework you have completed.
Application Changes
These tasks can be done in the student admissions portal under the tab “Application Changes.” Please follow the guidelines listed and review the terms carefully when you make these changes.

Honors, Scholarships, Awards
Any awards or invitations to programs sponsored by UMass Lowell will be presented in your portal.
Student Email Account
Some actions like applying for on-campus housing and updating health records require you to initiate your UML student email account. You will initiate your student email, student ID and set up your system access with multifactor authentication. Follow the instructions in your admissions portal or reach out to our Information Technology office for guidance.
Billing
Bills are generally available in late July for the fall semester and early January for the spring semester. All bills are posted online through the Student Information System (SIS). You will be notified through your student email account when a new bill has been generated. Payment plans are available with an enrollment fee. Please refer to The Solution Center website for the latest information.
Health Forms
All required health forms and information about immunization requirements are available online through Health Services.
Health Insurance
State law requires students to have health insurance. All enrolled students must complete the online student health insurance selection, which includes a waiver process for eligible students.
Students with Disabilities
Students eligible for services under the Americans with Disabilities Act should register with Disability Services before the start of classes (or before orientation if you need special accommodations during assessment testing).
Parking
Any student may bring a car to campus by applying for a parking sticker and paying all relevant fees. Visit Parking Services for information.
Academic Calendars
The university operates on a semester system. The calendar consists of a fall and spring semester during the academic year. The fall and spring semesters shall be a minimum of 15 weeks of instruction each, inclusive of periods for examinations. The winter and summer sessions are of varying lengths.
