ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ Counseling Services (UMLCS) is comprised of generalist mental health providers who provide assessment, brief individual psychotherapy, group counseling, consultation and referral services to ÐÓ°É´«Ã½ students.
Our model of care allows us to support and treat most students for the majority of their concerns.
If it is determined that the needs of a student fall outside the UMLCS scope of practice, a provider may recommend referrals to community providers. Concerns, circumstances and services that generally fall outside the UMLCS scope of practice include:
- Need for therapy more than once per week
- Need for long-term treatment
- Need for specialized or intensive treatment (e.g. medical detoxification, medical stabilization, eating disorder treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, partial hospitalization)
- Mandated counseling or mental health evaluations
- Current treatment by another mental health counseling provider
- Inability to adhere to treatment recommendations or attend sessions consistently
